Paganini - The Rock Album

Paganini - The Rock Album is Gnu Quartet's homage to Niccolò Paganini - the music, the person, the artist. The unparalleled athlete on four strings, gift of nature, and mysterious personality of his time, Paganini made an indelible mark on 19th century music like no other. Bringing Paganini closer to the world of Rock, creates a sound bursting in the rhythmic footstomping tradition of popular music. Caprices and sonatas for guitar and violin shed their virtuosic and formalised 19th century forms to reveal the soul of a simpler and more energetic composition. Melodies written to get stuck in your head and be hummed by the enthusiasts of the day are transformed, almost into song, and given a new electrifying vitality. GnuQuartet has put together a collection of completely original material, taking Paganini's melodies away from virtuosic composition and philology. They are not faithful reproductions or adaptations, but true and original compositions dedicated to the famous caprices, sonatas, and concerti. An unusual and original idea breaking the mould of stereotypes and generalisations - a risky game to play, but one driven by the utmost respect and affection for the first true rockstar of all time
